Summary

The Human Resource Generalist is responsible for performing HR-related duties on a professional level and works closely with the Director of Human Resources. This position provides human resources support in the following functional areas: recruitment/employment, employee relations, performance management, onboarding, and policy implementation. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with Hattie Larlham/ADD policies, DODD, State, and Federal requirements.  Must deliver excellent customer service at all times to internal and external customers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides HR support to all employees at all levels of organization.
  • Creates an environment of positive employee relations, maintains confidentiality, establishes trust and credibility, perceived by employees as approachable, balances business needs with employee needs, and spends significant time interfacing directly with employees and management.
  • Is proficient in company policies and procedures and is able to apply policies and procedures effectively.
  • Supervises the Human Resources Specialist and oversees the recruitment, applicant, new hire and on-boarding processes.
  • Works with the Director of Human Resources to deliver on recruitment/retention and other workforce planning strategies to address the current and future staffing needs of ADD.
  • Assists and provides leadership in development new recruitment/retention strategies
  • Serves as a back-up to the HR Specialist and HRMS Analyst in completing BCI/FBI fingerprinting for applicants, entering and building new hire files, and submitting new hire information to Payroll.
  • Administers FMLA and other leave of absence programs while maintaining legal compliance
  • Processes and administers unemployment compensation and represents ADD at hearings
  • Provides information and responses to employees related to organization policies and procedures
  • Participates as member of the Corporate Compliance Committee and the QIC Committee and prepares monthly compliance reports for these meetings. Researches and provides resolution for any variances in monthly reports and reports variances and/or discrepancies to Director of Human Resources and VP of Human Resources.
  • Prepares additional reports from HR/Payroll database as needed.
  • Maintains Rapback and ARCS System (Automated Registry Check System) ensuring employees are added/removed in a timely manner.
  • Tracks and maintains drug screen results for new hires and current employees (i.e. post-accident/reasonable suspicion).  Communicates results for drug screens related to post-hire and post-accident/reasonable suspicion.  Escalates positive results to the Director of HR and VP of HR.
  • Ensures compliance for any annual DODD requirements and checks (5-year background checks, Abuser Registry and OIG checks, annual abuser registry and criminal notification sign offs, etc.).
  • Oversees recruitment budget and referral bonus program and stays within established budget limitations
  • Completes any necessary audits of Human Resources processes and makes improvements to ensure Human Resources best practice and compliance with any/all regulations.
  • Assists the Director of HR or VP of Human Resources with various reports, projects and assignments and employee relations as needed.
  • Attends conferences and seminars to remain up-to date on Human Resources best practice and legal compliance issues. 
  • Responsible for participating in maintaining a safe workplace and attending annual mandatory safety training.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration/Human Resources or other-related degree preferred.  In lieu of Bachelor's degree must have high school diploma, PHR and/or SHRM-CP certification and a minimum of three (3) years of Human Resources generalist experience
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.
  • Previous experience with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Working Environment

Regular hours 9:00 am to 5:30 pm or 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, salary-exempt. May be required to work evenings and weekends as required by the Director of Human Resources..  May be required to travel to Hattie Larlham in Northeast Ohio or other business entities as necessary.
