Summary        

The Discovery Assistant is responsible for providing support to high school students (ages 15-21) enrolled in the Transition to Work Summer Program. During the four week summer program, students will complete job exploration sessions at local businesses in order to identify future employment goals. The summer program begins on 7/5/18 and end on 8/3/18. During this time, the Discovery Assistant will work Monday thru Friday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support students by providing supervision and personal care as outlined in student's Individual Specific Plan
  • Work with Discovery Specialists to provide job skill, social skill, and community accessibility instruction
  • Provide students with transportation to and from community job exploration session in an agency van
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Have a minimum of 1 year experience engaging with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities
  • Have current CPR & First Aid Certification or ability to obtain certificates
  • Defensive Driving Certification or the ability to obtain certificate
  • Ability to pass drug test and background checks
  • Valid driver's license with 5 or fewer points and reliable transportation
  • Ability to lift/lower 50 to 100 lbs. in order to assist students with transfers, etc. as needed
