Summary

The Food Service Coordinator plans and prepares meals for the Dahlberg Gibson Learning Center, ensuring the meal plans meet the nutritional requirements for each student and that they follow regulatory agency guidelines. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepares healthy meals and snacks for children while adhering to each child's special dietary restrictions, and meeting all requirements of the Ohio Department of Education Child and Adult Care food Program (CACFP).
  • Creates monthly menu that meets meal pattern requirements of CACFP and distributes to staff, families and regulatory agencies.
  • Provides educational classes/information related to nutrition to children and families.
  • Collaborates with teachers and therapists to assist children in developing fine and oral motor skills with food choices.
  • Collaborates with community service organizations to support nutritional needs of the DGLC families.
  • Partners with food vendors to order and purchase food and kitchen supplies in accordance with budget.
  • Provides training and coaching of kitchen assistants.
  • Provides annual training to classroom staff on required CACFP requirements and guidelines.
  • Maintains a safe and sanitary kitchen and storage areas while adhering to all applicable laws and health department regulations.
  • Provides direction and supports the planting and upkeep of the school vegetable garden.
  • Participates in strategic planning to expand the scope or the DGLC food program.
  • Compiles food expenditures and projected costs for Director. 

Essential Skills

  • High degree of knowledge about the nutritional needs of young children.
  • Cooking skills plus experience in food service and volume meal preparation.
  • High level of knowledge about the regulatory requirements of ODJFS and ODH, and the ability to meet those needs.
  • Strong ability to plan, organize and keep accurate records.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to provide support and training for kitchen assistants who have disabilities.
  • High degree of patience, compassion, composure and diplomacy needed.
  • Ability to develop rapport with young children and families.
  • Ability to develop rapport with staff, young children and families.
  • Ability to drive company van or willingness to use personal reliable transportation during work hours to pick up food orders or complete grocery shopping.
  • Must provide proof of valid Ohio driver's license and current automobile liability insurance. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in field related to nutrition, dietetics or food studies preferred.
  • Food service, education or training.
  • Knowledge of Federal Food Program guidelines.
  • Maintain current ServeSafe Certificate.
