Summary
The Building and Grounds Technician is responsible for performing custodial duties, maintaining grounds and equipment, minor painting and maintenance. The Building and Grounds Technician is responsible for ensuring the building meets county, state and federal requirements and is maintained in a healthy, safe and sanitary manner for daily participants, staff and guests.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensures the building is cleaned during daily operation.
  • Ensures classrooms, kitchen, bathrooms, and common areas are cleaned and sanitized for daily participants.
  • Properly plans minor repairs and maintenance to limit disruption to program services.
  • Detects and reports building problems and needs to the appropriate persons.
  • Assembles and moves furniture, office equipment, hang pictures and office boards.
  • Performs preventive maintenance as specified by manufacturers on equipment and systems.
  • Ensures proper use of tools and assigned machinery and reports any concerns to supervisor.
  • Purchases supplies for jobs and submits receipts of expenditures to appropriate person.
  • Completes daily and monthly checklist to ensure safety and security of the facility.
  • Establishes and maintains an effective working relationship with building and agency staff.
  • Maintains exterior of building near entrance and exit ensuring it is clear of snow, ice and debris.
  • Assists with staging of agency vans and snow removal as needed.
  • Responsible for identifying and reporting landscaping needs including mowing, weeding, upkeep of flower beds and shrubs.
  • Maintains safety standards and properly displays lockout and caution signage.
  • Assists in scheduled fire and tornado drills.
  • Stocks all supplies in restrooms and kitchens.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills

  • Knowledgeable of standard cleaning procedures, chemicals, products and equipment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work well with changing priorities and or situations.
  • Must be a self-starter who can work well with people at all levels within or outside the agency.
  • Ability to work independently; understand and follow oral and written instructions; learn and retain specific and general information concerning facilities, equipment, functions and assignments.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required. Associates degree preferred.
  • Experience in building maintenance.
  • Must have a valid Ohio driver's license with less than 6 points.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.

Physical Requirements
Able to work in a variety of conditions such as tight or enclosed spaces, heights, and temperature extremes, indoors or outdoors to complete work assignments. Must be able to lift up to 100 lbs. without assistance and anything greater than 100 lbs. with assistance.
