Summary

The Toddler Intervention Specialist is responsible for providing intervention, planning, developing and implementing center based services that support Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSP) for the children who attend their toddler class at Dahlberg Gibson Learning Center. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participates as a member of the interdisciplinary team in order to plan and implement educational instruction and monitor student progress to achieve IFSP goals.
  • Writes and implements curriculum and educational programs to meet the educational goals stated in each IFSP.
  • Works with therapists to plan activities, share observations, and develop strategies for progress based on each child's Individual Family Service Plan.
  • Manages the classroom and ensures that the health and safety needs of the children are being met.
  • Maintains classroom routines and behavior strategies to encourage the best possible student educational experience.
  • Provides a minimum of a quarterly visit to the home environment of each child served to build a relationship with the family and offer developmentally appropriate strategies to meet the educational goals of the child.
  • Effectively uses available resources including technology, staff and volunteers to achieve goals and objectives in a cost effective manner.
  • Prepares appropriate documentation and reports as required and reports on programs and student's progress.
  • Maintains good working relationship with officials from governing bodies.
  • Communicates with the Director about activities occurring within the classroom.
  • Effectively works with other members of the DGLC staff to improve processes, achieve strategic goals and contribute to a team environment.
  • Reports any incidents of inappropriate behavior to Director and other governing bodies as required.
  • Solicits ideas and concerns from direct reports and works with team to problem solve and implement changes.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work with a variety of professionals, staff, children and parents. 

 

Essential Skills

  • Knowledgeable about supports available in the community and demonstrates skill in finding and using these supports.
  • Has a working knowledge of The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services and the Ohio Department of Education,, IFSP requirements, current methodologies and available therapies.
  • Strong curriculum and teaching skills, oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to plan and problem solve.
  • Ability to anticipate, facilitate and participate in change.
  • High attention to detail and a high level of motivation, professionalism, trustworthiness and ethics.
  • High degree of patience, compassion and empathy
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university in Early Childhood or related field. 
  • Franklin County Early Intervention Specialist Certificate or willingness to complete the necessary training to obtain one is required.  ODE Early Childhood Intervention Specialist (P-3) license preferred
  • Experience or demonstrated ability to implement teaching methods, behavior management, and curriculum and education programs designed for students with developmental disabilities.
